Interpretation

Susangati –Good company(good company) is the company that a player who searches for her identity within, finds herself in. The seeker will find company in other seekers. To be successful in her quest of finding her identity, she will follow the path of dharma. She will find around her, other seekers also on the path of dharma. The seekers serve as mirrors for each other, with both the good and the bad tendencies observed and acted upon.

Adau sraddha tatah sadhu-sango ‘tha bhajana-kriya tato ‘nartha-nivrttih syat tato nistha tatah rucis tato bhavas.

You must have faith in “good company”. Then you will have faith in “bhakti”. This will lead to “anartha-nivrttih syat”, which is detachment and separation from bad habits. Thus your commitment will be steadfast. Your taste, attraction, “ruci” and your way of being, “bhava” will be conditioned to good habits.

Susaṅgati provides an atmosphere of trust and compassion, that allows the player to grow away from old identifications towards her inner self. Satsaṅgati, is the company of saints or the company of truth. Many versions of the ancient game boards, used the word Satsaṅgati instead.
