The intermediate space between heaven and earth.
bhuva-loka
Literally means the space between “bhu” and “svara” / “svarga”, which is the atmosphere. It refers to a “dream world”, a plane of emotions and feelings. This region is described in the Yogasutra of Patanjali as “the aerial region, beginning from the back of the Meru upto the pole-star and decorated with planets, asterisms and stars, is the antarikṣa or the bhuva-loka”.



Interpretation

Bhuva-lokaAtmosphere, Plane of emotions and feelings” (astral plane) is where the player becomes alive with possibilities. The player engages in imagination as his physical body is also maturing.

In this cell the player directs her entire energy in building castles in the air. She strives to get away from the obvious reality through the pursuit of enjoyment, pleasure and identification with others. Enjoyment of the sense organs is the impelling force of life for players vibrating in this stage. She dwells in the world of emotions and ideas, and uses them as the basis of her fantasies. Fantasy is the power behind creativity, and the player must realise the need to act and go beyond.

The cell of dāna exactly 6 places away,hints the need to detach from engaging with the senses and from the base pursuits of enjoyment and pleasure. Karmayoga,the first cell of the next plane, hints at the need to pursue actions and encourages the player to break out of her fantasy, to move out with the next throw of the dice.

Humans are the most important beings in Bhuva loka. They are said to be the children of Vishnu, and they are said to have been created by him. Humans are said to have the potential to achieve moksha (liberation from the cycle of rebirth) by following dharma (righteousness).
